- Coarse sediment — sand, silt and rust, taken out before anything finer sees them.
- Fine sediment — clay and micro-silt down to 5 micron.
- Iron removal — only where iron is indicated, and only confirmed by a test.
- Hardness control — softening or anti-scalant where scaling is a real problem.
- Activated carbon — chlorine, taste and odour. Always upstream of the membrane, because free chlorine damages it.
- Micron guard — the last barrier before the pump.
- Booster pump — mains pressure alone is rarely enough.
- RO membrane — the separation stage, with a reject line to drain.
- TDS blend and mineral correction — so the water does not taste flat.
- UF, storage, post-carbon and UV — added according to what the water and the application need.
Water testing and verification
An online questionnaire narrows the possibilities. It does not measure anything. Hardness, iron and microbiological safety are laboratory results, and we say so on every recommendation rather than quietly assuming a value. Questions people actually ask
Can you tell me what is in my water from a questionnaire?
No. A questionnaire narrows down what is likely and rules some things out. Hardness, iron, nitrate and microbiological safety are laboratory measurements. Every recommendation we produce marks each item as Confirmed, Likely or Needs testing so you can see which is which.
Why does the carbon filter come before the RO membrane?
Free chlorine chemically degrades thin-film composite polyamide membranes. Carbon adsorbs the chlorine first, which is why it is placed upstream in every configuration we build.
Do I need a softener as well as an RO system?
Sometimes. An RO membrane reduces hardness in the water it produces, but very hard feed water scales the membrane itself and shortens its life. Where hardness is high we put control ahead of the membrane. Where it is not, we leave it out.
What is the reject water for?
Reverse osmosis separates the feed into purified water and a concentrated stream that carries away what was removed. That reject stream has to go to drain. How much there is depends on the recovery the system is designed for.
Is UV always necessary?
No. It is a safeguard for biological risk, which is why we add it where the source or the application suggests one and mark it as needing a microbiological test rather than claiming it is required.
Is the configuration a quotation?
No. It is a starting configuration. A person reviews it, checks the site, and only then issues a quotation.
